(20 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Chatham County, Georgia - 19 February 2026 1. A school staff member holds a banner memorializing teacher Linda Davis 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Alonna McMullen, principal of Herman W. Hesse K-8 School: “Dr. Davis believed in students. You knew that when you watched her in action, even the most difficult students — if there is difficult students — but even the most difficult students, she knew how to make them shine. We told the students about her passing Tuesday and to see their tears and their cries because they really did care about her. And they knew that she cared about them. Our students loved her, especially the students that she specifically supported. And you could tell through their work, through their developments throughout the school year and the way that she worked and supported them through all their accommodations.” 3. Various of flowers on the roadway in memory of Linda Davis 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Alonna McMullen, principal of Herman W. Hesse K-8 School: “I will say that every time that we pass that scene, because many of us live out of this area and so we have to come off the Truman [Parkway] until Whitefield [Avenue]. There is a lingering emotion there that probably will not go away, especially anytime soon.” 5. Flowers on the roadway in memory of Linda Davis 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Alonna McMullen, principal of Herman W. Hesse K-8 School: “I hope that Dr. Linda Davis is remembered for her spirit of learning and teaching. She was one that was willing to go in and educate, but she was also one that wanted to be educated. She had goals and she had a passion for what she did, and you could truly see it in the level of teaching that she did with our students. Our students are going to excel because of her.” 7. Exterior of school 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Alonna McMullen, principal of Herman W. Hesse K-8 School: “She started later in the year, but the impact that she's had on our students and staff is just remarkable. I mean, even in that short span, the turnaround that she has done with some of our students is amazing, and that is something that will not be forgotten for those families, for her colleagues, for our school in general. And we just thank Linda Davis for all that she's done for us. We love you.” 9. Exterior of school STORYLINE: The kindergarten and first grade students in Linda Davis’ classes sobbed and shed tears after being told their teacher, who greeted them most mornings with an infectious smile, wouldn’t be coming back. Davis, 52, was killed during her morning commute Monday, less than a half mile (0.8 kilometers) from the school where she taught students with special needs. Local and federal authorities say a Guatemalan man crashed his pickup truck into Davis’ car as he was fleeing a traffic stop by federal immigration officers. “It was extremely difficult to tell 5 and 6-year-olds that the teacher they loved and cherished will not be returning to see them,” said Alonna McMullen, principal of Herman W. Hesse K-8 School in Savannah’s southside suburbs. “To see the looks on their faces, it broke my heart.” Teachers at Hesse were trying Thursday to create a normal routine for the students, but their grief remained fresh.
