Reichenau an der Rax, the famous "climatic health resort" with a number of pleasant hotels and a nearby iconic viaduct sensitively located in the picturesque Alpine landscape near Payerbach, was the starting point of our route. (Also, the famous Austrian Emperor Franz-Josef I used to come here, especially to hunt capercaillie) They probably would have deserved more attention, but we were curious about the surrounding mountains, more precisely the ones in the north. Various massive rock formations that dominate the valley were already visible from afar, we chose to go between them to a higher plateau. The path initially climbed relatively comfortably between the rocks and later led straight, on the descent we were at first afraid of the steep slopes, but in the end they were manageable. Behind the "Eng" strait we passed the partially reconstructed "Holzriese", a wooden slide that was once used to transport wood from more inaccessible areas. On the higher mountain meadows, used in the summer for grazing cows, there are several huts, we passed by one of them - Waldburgangerhütte, but it was closed at the time. At the end of the route we stopped at the Hochberg rock with a great view, especially of Payerbach, called Jubiläumsaussicht. In case of clear weather, you can see all the way to Lake Neusiedl from there.
