Recently, I had surgery to repair my completely ruptured right triceps tendon, which was retracted approximately four centimeters from its attachment site on my olecranon process (which is the bony point of the elbow). On this episode of "Fitness Facts," I discuss how triceps tendon ruptures are surgically repaired and rehabilitated with my special guest, board certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Witte. Dr. Witte is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Sano Orthopedics, practicing in Overland Park, KS and the Kansas City Metro area. He specializes in knee, shoulder, and elbow care. He has a special interest in athletic injury prevention and injuries of the throwing athlete. Dr. Witte obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences while obtaining an MBA in Healthcare Leadership from Rockhurst University. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida, working under the leadership of world-renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews. During his sports medicine fellowship, he learned the latest techniques in treating knee injuries, elbow complications, and shoulder conditions in athletes of all ages. He also learned how to manage an entire sports program and the relationships between parents, teams, and coaches that coincide with that management. Previously, Dr. Witte was also an associate clinical professor at KCU and the chief of surgery at St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, KS. Dr. Witte’s passions include athletic injury prevention, regenerative medicine, and injuries of the throwing athlete. He is driven to help his patients live healthy and active lifestyles.
