The iliohypogastric nerve pierces the transversus abdominis muscle and continues anteriorly between the transversus abdominis and the internal oblique abdominal muscle. It divides into an anterior cutaneous branch and a lateral cutaneous branch and provides motor and sensory functions. Motor innervation is provided to the transversus abdominis muscle and the internal oblique muscle. Sensory innervation is supplied to some of the abdominal muscles, the suprapubic and posterolateral gluteal skin. In this video we will take a closer look at the iliohypogastric nerve, its course and innervation: 0:09 origin 0:55 course 2:03 anterior cutaneous branch 2:55 lateral cutaneous branch 3:32 iliohypogastric nerve function (sensory innervation) 3:50 iliohypogastric nerve function (motor innervation) 4:04 ilioinguinal neuralgia and clinical significance Want to prepare for your exam on the ventral trunk?
