RF 28mm f/2.8 Pancake lens 12Bit 8K Video Test (Shot on Canon R5C in Kyoto and Osaka) This is the brand new RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens 8K video test. And I gotta say, this pancake lens is super tiny. And it weights nothing. It is a perfect travel lens. And speaking of travel. Then what’s better than testing this travel lens when you are actually traveling. So it has been 8 years since I have done an Osaka video on this channel. Last one was a bad “Last Holiday” series which I filmed back in 2015. Framing was bad, colour grading was bad. Don’t go and watch that video. Let’s get back to the RF 28mm lens. So I have pre-ordered this lens since it was launched in day one. But for some reason everyone around the world had received the lens except me 😆. And because Japan is number number camera gear shopping country. So I decided to go pick one up in Japan for the review. Before I went to Japan. I was keep thinking between the Canon R3 and the R5C. And I was really gonna bring my Canon R3 for the Japan trip. But the camera is just a bit too big for travel. Plus I recently found out YouTube doesn’t support 6K resolution anymore. So that’s why I went for the R5C instead. Might aswel just shoot everything on 8K 😜. But this time I only did 12Bit 8K RAW 24p as the Canon R5C doesn’t have enough power to run the 8K 60p RAW. And I didn’t wanna carry a big PD power bank while I was traveling. (That’s why sometimes I prefer the Canon R3 over the R5C. The R3 does have the in body IS. And the R3 battery last forever too) So I really like the focal length, I reckon 28mm is perfect for travel. it’s not too wide and not too close. Really great for street photography and videography. And the auto focus works well with the R5C (With latest R5C firmware) and the image is sharp even at wide open. You get little bit of the distortion but that’s only when you shoot 12Bit RAW video, any other modes, the camera will do the auto correction for you. Overall I think this is a perfect travel lens. I have said it so many times before. Gear don’t matter, don’t always try and carry everything with you. Enjoy the holiday. Sometime it’s more fun when you only have one lens with you. So you get to learn how to work with the limitation. Note: I have actually filmed over 83 shots for this review. And I only picked the 26 shots for the video. I could easily extend the video to at least 10 mins. As Japan is just beautiful. I couldn’t help myself. I kept shooting the entire trip. I have also filmed another lens video while I was in Japan. It should be out very soon. Stay-tuned for that.
