Viewer discretion advised. Students of Dr. Gayle Kraus dissect a Blue Shark (Prionace glauca). This shark was found washed up on a beach in Starboard Maine, and collected by students on September 15th, 2022. The animal was kept frozen until next spring, and was dissected on April 20th, 2023. Students learn valuable hands on skills, and have a great time. Prior to the dissection itself, many measurements were taken. Here they are below: Sex: Male. Weight: 150-175 lbs. 5 Gill slits. Snout to front of Dorsal fin: 98cm. Width of first Dorsal fin (against body): 19cm. Maximum width of first Dorsal fin: 30cm. Length of first Dorsal fin: 29cm. Snout to front of Pelvic fin: 140cm. Clasper length: 16cm. Pelvic fin width (against body): 14cm. Pelvic fin length: 23cm. Snout to front of second Dorsal fin: 170cm. Width of second dorsal (against body): 11cm.
