Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited tea gardens in Dibrugarh, Assam, interacting with tea garden workers ahead of a major rally in the poll-bound state. The visit comes after the announcement of BJP candidates on April 9. Tea garden workers play a crucial role in Assam elections, with influence over 40 seats and decisive impact in 10 constituencies. From April 1, daily wages for tea garden workers have been increased from Rs 250 to Rs 280. The BJP government has also promised land rights to tea workers, included in the party's manifesto, with some workers already receiving land documents. Prime Minister Modi called tea garden workers Assam's pride. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assured that the government is working on granting Scheduled Tribe status to tea workers.
