EX: The Preservers and the Progenitors have not officially been designated as the same species, however it was left open to interpretation in the Shows and famed Star Trek writer Ron Moore has hinted that they are indeed the same. Further confirmation came in the Star Trek Online video game which finally linked the two and made it clear they are the same. While Star Trek Online is not Common Canon, it, along with the other available evidence, is enough, in my opinion, to state them as the same species. It is important to note that many Star Trek fans differ greatly on what is and is not Canon, as well as how to handle the many contradictions that have arisen over the years.
