Foot and mouth disease breaks out in Nakuru

Farmers in Matuiku area of Rongai Constituency, Nakuru County, have reported a Foot and Mouth disease outbreak, which they say has killed 10 cows so far. At least 30 others are said to be infected and at death's door. However, the farmers say they have not received any help from the government, as every veterinarian they have contacted has either refused to show up or asked them to fuel their motorcycles to enable them make the visit. Since the outbreak was reported, milk production in the area has declined, with the average yield per cow going down from 8 litres a day to just one litre.
