THINGS NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT THE GREATEST GATES OF INDIA- A Sight to behold || CITY PALACE JAIPUR 5

Credits to: Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, City Palace Jaipur Museum Monumental Gates has always been a reflection of prosperity for Kingdoms. Rulers, over the course of human civilisation, have always wanted to build gigantic gates which will play a pivotal role in the security of the countrymen and also display the might of the state. Not only for military reasons but many gates have also been erected to display joy, honour and good gestures. ‘Gates’ have remained a very important component of Architecture in the country. All these mighty gates carry unforgettable legacy and history. In this Journey. The #City Palace in Jaipur is an exquisite maharaja’s palace. Each section seemed even more impressive than the last. Built in the 18th Century for the Maharaja of Jaipur, the palace is still a #royal residence today. Apart from its magical architecture, the royal residence, and a museum, the city palace has lesser-known but not less beautiful gates in its third courtyard. In the inner courtyard of City Palace, #Pritam Niwas Chowk has four small gates, which are elaborately decorated in brilliant colours. This courtyard is dominated by #Chandra Mahal which is said to be the most charming courtyard in City Palace. Many confuse the four gates with ‘Ridhi-Sidhi Pol’ however it is not correct – The #Ridhi-Sidhi Pol is the gateway between the #Diwan-i-Aam & Pritam Niwas Chowk of the palace, however, the four gates are different and are located inside the chowk. The gates were in perfect harmony with the design of the courtyard despite their completely different design, pattern and colours. It is a marvel created by the two principal architects of the ‘Jaipur’ project, Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya & Sir Samuel Jacob. Each door has a different role to play and a story to tell. These gates are adorned with themes symbolising four seasons and are dedicated to a specific Hindu God & Goddess. These gates give us the spiritual connection and the essence of the life of the medieval period in India. The City Palace surely makes you fall in love with its art. 1. Lotus Gate– Beautified with lotus petals and stunning floral patterns representing summer season, Lotus gate is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. Lotus gate surrounds the statue of God and a motif of sun. The beguiling colours and detailed lotus flower work all over the gate will leave you stunned. 2. Rose gate– The repeated petal pattern represents the winter season and is dedicated to Goddess Devi. Rose gate, which is in the third number in the series of the four gates, is beautifully designed and painted with rose petals that also surround the statue of God and a motif of sun. 3. Lehariya Gate– The beautifully vivid green coloured gate or the green gate represents the green of the spring season. This indicates the start of the spring and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Lehariya means waves, which was how it got its name. It also has a statue of Lord Ganesha surrounded by the motifs of waves. 4. Peacock gate-It is one of the most famous and admired gates of them all. This gate is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and symbolizes the autumn season. It is located on the North-East side of the courtyard. The carved peacocks surround the statue of God and are brilliantly decorated with colourful paintings.
