"숙희 (Sookhee): Of Memory, Loss, and Love"

I am pleased to share my work, "숙희 (Sookhee): of memory, loss, and love." The music was composed for the purpose of thesis composition, but it is also a personal tribute to the second year of my mother's death. In September 2021, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away a month later. This short period was the most emotionally turbulent moment of my life. I created the music of five movements: surprise, fear, anger, sadness, and joy from the emotional changes I went through during this period. I would like to thank Allison for creating characters and animated videos that resemble me in a very short time. I studied with two professors for two years at UNT. Professor Hepker generously shared his knowledge and skills, enabled me to overcome my musical limitations, and most of all, he always trusted my musical abilities more than I did. And, Dr. Schnurr has presented new perspectives on approaching music that I have never thought of before and enabled me to take on challenges. Most of all, he has taken care of and supported me if I can continue working on this music whenever I struggle emotionally. I sincerely appreciate both of my amazing professors.
