Transcription: This is a great question on the difference or what are the signs of milk allergy versus milk intolerance. Milk intolerance or often called lactose intolerance is very different than milk allergy. Not many people are truly milk allergic. Milk allergy is you have hives, nausea or vomiting. You cannot eat the milk or dairy. It could be life threatening. Milk intolerance or lactose intolerance, your body cannot absorb it and so it just goes through you, usually with a lot of diarrhea, constipation, and GI issues. But they are two very different symptoms and with two different prognosis. Milk allergy, life threatening and hives. Milk intolerance, stomach upset. You could eat it but you can just pay for it with stomach issues. The milk intolerance often you can either avoid or do lactose-free milk or even take lactase pills to help. With milk allergy, you got to avoid, have an Epipen, or if you do want to do something about it, and you are truly milk allergic, we could always talk about desensitization to allow your body to tolerate it. Often, people will say milk allergy but really there is a big difference between milk allergy and lactose intolerance. Also, lactose intolerance has more clinical history; milk allergy, we could always test and get antibodies for it.
