The inherent powers conferred upon the High Court by Section 528 of The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita or Section 482 of the CrPC act as a vital shield against the misuse of the criminal justice system. This provision empowers the High Court to intervene and quash an FIR in extraordinary circumstances. Earlier it was in section 482 of CRPC now it's mentioned in section - 528 of BNSS, 2023 Saving of inherent powers of High Court. Nothing in this Code shall be deemed to limit or affect the inherent powers of the High Court to make such orders as may be necessary to give effect to any order under this Code, or to prevent abuse of the process of any Court or otherwise to secure the ends of justice.
