Fort Ord, California. 1993. Memories flood back like a tidal wave. So many people . I was stationed 4 times and each time I ended up in the same row of barracks in the location which is shown at the beginning of this piece. First time in Basic Training (A-5-1/2) 1969, Then OJT (B-4-3) 1970. Then Aco. 7th Med (1980-81). Finally with HQ Arty (1983-84).What are the odds? Billets for basic, 7th Med and NCO barracks for Arty. I've always had some affinity for this place. Seems as though I knew this place before I came here the first time. The fog, so beautiful and luminescent, laced with the spirits of thousands of soldiers which floats in almost daily from the sea. Perhaps from some far off land, they search for the beginnings of their manhood. Life cut too short, they wander.
