Following a parade of Rotarian veterans of our armed forces and posting of our country's colors by the JROTC Color Guard of Yorks William Penn Senior High, Rich Robinson, gives a presentation about York’s own General Jacob L. Devers and afterwards the retiring of the colors by the JROTC. In the years before WWII, Gen. Devers was one of a handful of American officers who helped develop US Field Artillery into one of the most effective and feared branches of the US Army. When he took command of the Armored Force in 1941, the US Army did not have any armored formations or tanks capable of taking the field. In less than 2 years, he oversaw the creation, organization, and equipping of the US Armored Divisions destined for North Africa and Europe.
