In this lesson I show how to build a jazz solo over Fly Me To The Moon step by step. We start very simply with guide tones, then expand the line with arpeggios and chromatic approach notes. From there we begin shaping the same material rhythmically and musically. In the final step I add a bit more bebop language, showing how the same lines can become more expressive and musical without simply adding more notes. The idea is not to memorize complicated scales, but to hear the harmony and shape musical lines. When you practice, try to remember the sound of the phrases, not just the fingerings.
