Annapolis is the State Capital of Maryland, and once the temporary Capitol of the United States. Located on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, Annapolis "Naptown" is known as America's Sailing Capital, rich with maritime history and provides access to rivers, reeks and inland bays that can be explored by kayak, canoe or stand up paddle board. Home to the United States Naval Academy, military and collegiate traditions like Commissioning Week, Navy Football and family and reunion weekends is part of the cultural spirit of the city. History is throughout, anchored by the Maryland State House, the oldest state capital in continuous legislative use was built in 1772 and it was here George Washington resigned his commission in 1783.
