Possibly the best of the tales from The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle's last collection of stories featuring the inimitable consulting detective. The Adventure of the Retired Colourman was first published in Liberty magazine in 1926, and entered the public domain in the U.S.A. on January 1st 2022. There is only one more Sherlock adventure to record this year: that is The Adventure of the Three Gables. [Two of the short stories from The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, "The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger" and "The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place", are the last two Sherlock Holmes works still protected by copyright in the U.S.A.
