We took the Redhawk to the range to run a number of different cartridges through it. From 45ACP FMJ's to defensive and +P rounds from Hornady and Corbon to 45 LC range ammo all the way up to +P "deer grenades" from Buffalo Bore. This firearm shoots very easy with 45ACP and the lighter 45 LC loads but is still manageable while firing heavy loads delivering 1200-1300 ft. lbs of muzzle energy. It's almost like a "45 magnum" if there was such a thing! This sort of flexibility is one of the reasons there is still a place in the world for revolvers. I did note the need for a fair amount of practice in order to shoot the heavier loads with some level of accuracy. I did confirm with Buffalo Bore that it was safe to shoot their commercially available cartridges from this revolver. I preferred the firearm with Hogue over-molded grips vs the grips it came with but it's a fine firearm either way! I especially like the fact that I can "plink" with lower cost 45 ACP ammo or load with potent 45 ACP or 45 LC defensive ammo or really put hot loads in it to have a light (in relative terms), yet potent machine to carry to ward off predators of any size. I also like that it has some level of commonality of caliber with my other 45 automatics. The sights are great and the trigger is heavy but smooth. At almost 3 lbs fully loaded, it's a bit heavy and big for a concealed carry piece but still "concealed carryable" if needed and convenient for carry in the woods compared to the weights of other powerful revolvers. This is a versatile, useful, fun and beautiful firearm and has quickly become one of my favorites!
