When you are just learning how to knit, I recommend starting with bigger needles and a nice chunky yarn because it will be easier to see your stitches. Recommended Yarn: https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/p/mi... Everyone has a different preference on aluminum vs wood needles. I have always preferred aluminum to wood. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: on wood needles your stitches slide around less. Cons: on wood needles your stitches slide around less ;-) I personally find it a lot easier to knit even stitches on needles where my stitches slide more easily. This was true even when I was much newer to knitting. At the end of the day, everyone is different and some people like wood needles more than I do, so try both and see what works best for you!
