Chamber pot: portable toilets through history

These two chamber pots date from the mid-19th century and their primary objective was to collect urine and faeces. Chamber pots were often kept in bedrooms, but they were also kept in drawing rooms for social occasions and in carriages for use during a long journey. Some even had caricatures of people painted in the bottom of the pot, which begs the question: whose face would you have on the bottom of yours?
