Both psychosis and suicide can have a devastating effect on families. This film features two mental health nurses as they meet with a young man and his parents after he has taken an overdose in an attempt to end his life during a psychotic episode. While she continues to see Peter on his own, her colleagues are seen here working with Peter and his family, trying to help them understand what has happened to Peter, as well as endeavouring to help him keep himself safe. The clinicians use a number of specific family work techniques to help Peter talk with his parents and them to talk to him, to help them all manage their distress and anxiety safely as the sadness and desperation of their plight emerges.
