Chanson ~ Don't Hold Back 1978 Disco Purrfection Version

"Chanson" means song in French and it also was the name of a band that became a one hit wonder. James Jamerson was the bassist during Motown's heyday in the 60's and 70's with his influential unique and compelling bass lines that gave you something to shake your booty to. His son James Jamerson Jr followed in daddy's footsteps playing bass and went on the road with the Temptations. It was there that he met David Williams, who played rhythm guitar and they decided to go into the studio and record some songs as Chanson. Members of Toto and Al McKay from Earth Wind and Fire played on the LP. The pair wrote and produced their own tracks and one caught the attention of the record buying public, "Don't Hold Back". It peaked at #21, a respectable showing for a new band, but they were unable to maintain the momentum. One more LP "Together We Stand" was released in 1979 but without a hit single, it faded into obscurity. The band dissolved with James and David returning to session work for bands like Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jacksons, George Howard, Boz Scaggs, Michelle Gayle, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music.
