Pointe Du Hoc was the first stop on our trip in Normandy and we actually decided to come back during sunrise the following morning to have the whole place to ourselves. The views from the ground are magnificent and truly put me in a state of awe trying to imagine standing on the bottom of the cliff, looking up 110 feet, and starting to make my ascend with bullets and grenades raining down and not knowing what awaited me at the top. However, the views from the sky really put the scale of the invasion into perspective; the cliffs are huge, the area is vast, and despite the heavy shelling that took place before the soldiers arrived, 77 Rangers still gave the ultimate sacrifice.
