In this video, I’m making one of my favorite forms – a simple, straight Yunomi teacup. I’m using 300g of a dark stoneware mix, which after firing gives a cup of around 260ml - perfect for tea or coffee. The process starts with throwing on the potter’s wheel - no cuts, no rush, just the full rhythm of clay shaping. A day later, I’m trimming the cup, refining the form, uncovering the foot, and signing it by hand (I don’t use a stamp for these). For trimming, I use only three simple tools - nothing fancy, just essentials that work perfectly for this form. In the next step, I apply a layer of white porcelain slip (there’s a separate video about this process), then bisque fire the cup, glaze it with a transparent glaze, and finally fire to cone 10.
