The same is true for an inexpensive Fire stick. You don’t need to pay $150 to $200 per month to Comcast, Spectrum, DIRECTV or Dish anymore. It’s time to cut the cord and put together your own solid alternative to cable and satellite TV. The main focus of this video is to review the Fire TV Cube and show you Fire TV apps that deliver free live TV. I include some nice low-cost solutions such as Philo, which has 58 channels such as A&E, History, MTV and Discovery Channel. Free 7-day trial of Philo: https://cutt.ly/philo-free-trial The Fire TV Cube might be the only streaming device where you can channel surf through over-the-air channels using your voice. You will need a Fire TV Recast for this option. If you're already getting local OTA channels through your TV antenna, try telling Alexa to tune to NBC or CBS. Your TV will power on and go to the live channel being pulled in from the TV antenna. Based on my testing, you even have voice commands for the free streaming platform Pluto TV, and Philo. The voice commands for Philo weren’t perfect, but I could turn on the TV and get to a number of networks without any problems. One of the most compelling reasons for a Fire TV Cube is that you can build your own customized channel lineup. So let’s say you just wanted your local NBC, and a bunch of other stations from your antenna and HBO. A Fire TV Cube or Fire Stick has the ability to pull all that into a single menu if you’re using a Recast for local over-the-air channels. Every Fire TV now comes with IMDB TV, a free streaming service launched by Amazon that has a huge library of movies and TV shows. I also really like Kanopy, and using Plex for watching my personal movie collection. I use a 4TB WD hard drive, and burn movies on a Pioneer Blue-Ray burner.
