Trains and Ghost Towns of the Nullarbor (filmed 1990)

Record of a trip in 1990 following the maintenance track along the transcontinental railway across the Nullarbor Plain. This trip can not be done legally any more as the line has been privatized and they do not want people along their "private tracks" and apart from the line a lot of the infrastructure is no longer there, particularly the telegraph poles that added another dimension to the space. The Eyre Highway only passes through a very small section of the Nullabour and to really experience it one has to venture deep into it. I may put some extra videos up of more Nullarbor fun some time. Like most of Outback Australia you either get it or not, it is all about the space and your place in it. The line has a lot of traffic and since this was filmed i think they have lengthened the passing loops so now trains of several kilometers pass by. Shot on Svhs.
