At its best, lighting is not decoration or utility. It is emotion, memory, and atmosphere. That idea anchored a recent AIA panel hosted by AudioVisions at the Lutron Los Angeles Design Studio, where architects, lighting designers, and industry partners gathered to explore the expressive power of light. Moderated by AudioVisions Technology Advisor Carley Knobloch, the conversation featured Chris Shanley of Marmol Radziner, Teal Brogden of HLB Lighting Design, and Carlos Madrid III of SOM. Together, they examined how light shapes experience, why quality matters more than fixtures, and the importance of early collaboration and restraint in design. The evening concluded with a live demonstration of Lutron Ketra lighting, led by AudioVisions LA Technology Advisor Patrick Burke, bringing the discussion to life through full spectrum, circadian, and candlelight level illumination. The experience reinforced a central theme of the night: when lighting is designed with intention and supported by thoughtful technology, it disappears into the background, leaving comfort, clarity, and a deeper human connection to space.
