The next milestone for AI - Building trust Parinaz Sobhani more aigeeks.org Trust and responsible use of technology are particularly important for software companies that build products using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). It allows companies to access the data that they need to fuel models and ultimately power AI solutions. However, AI also presents new challenges for trust. Since much of the data that companies use to train AI is generated by humans who are often themselves biased along racial, gender or other lines, there's a risk that this bias can become embedded in an AI model and propagated at scale. In addition, as AI techniques become increasingly complex, companies will need to figure out how to explain the choices of their models instead of simply assuming that users are happy to trust a black box. In this talk, we discuss how organizations can address these new challenges in a systematic and sustainable way and go beyond the desire to be ethical in deploying AI technologies. Speaker: Parinaz Sobhani is the Director of Machine Learning on the Georgian Impact team and is responsible for leading the development of cutting-edge machine learning solutions for growth-stage startup companies.. Parinaz holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa with a research focus on solving opinion mining problems using natural language processing and deep neural networks techniques. She has more than 10 years of experience in developing and designing new models and algorithms for various artificial intelligence tasks. Prior to joining Georgian Partners, Parinaz worked at Microsoft Research where she developed end-to-end neural machine translation models. She has also worked for the National Research Council of Canada, where she designed and developed deep neural network models for natural language understanding and sentiment analysis.
