Urethroplasty: Looking at permanent cure for stricture urethra | Peshaab ke stricture ka ilaaj

Stricture Urethra is a narrowing of the urethra or urinary passage. It leads to poor flow and reduction in urinary stream at times with great difficulty in passing urine. The treatment options include Endoscopic treatment and Internal Urethrotomy or OIU ( Optical Internal Urethrotomy). Endoscopic treatment is successful only in 20 to 30% of the patients. For a more permanent cure Urethroplasty may be indicated. Urethroplasty is successful in 85 to 90% of patients. It can be done with buccal mucosa (or inner lining of cheek) graft or other substitutes such as skin. Urethroplasty can be tailored to the length and type of urethral stricture. Although catheter indwelling time is about 21 to 28 days patient is able to accept semisolids the same day and can walk around the next day.
