This videos uses The World Bank and World Poverty Clock data to show the drastic reduction of extreme poverty achieved by Narendra Modi government in just 5 years. In the 1950s, approximately 50% of the population in India was living in extreme poverty. In 2014, when the new government headed by Narendra Modi came to power in India, India was still the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, approximately 26% of the population. However, within the 5 year period from 2014 to 2019, there has been a drastic reduction in the percentage of people living in extreme poverty in India, as per the data from World Poverty Clock. The original projection of World Poverty Clock was that this percentage will drop to less than 3% of the population, by 2022. However, because of the success of the policies of Modi government, India is likely to reach that target by November 2019, that is, 3 years before the original projection.
