Microbial communities vary greatly as microbes adopt very different niches. Functional and physiological traits are underlying drivers of niche differentiation, while feeding patterns by eukaryotic predators also have a important role to play on the soil microbiota. Yet, microbial communities can have dramatically different compositions even among similar environments. This webinar will dive into the complex topic of microbial life strategies. Originally broadcast on Thursday 17th November 2022, this webinar features: Chair: Max Häggblom, Editor-in-Chief of FEMS Microbiology Ecology - Speaker 1: Damien R Finn, Thünen Institut für Biodiversität, Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institut (Germany). Author of: Functional trait relationships demonstrate life strategies in terrestrial prokaryotes, Finn et al. FEMS Microbiology Ecology, Volume 97, Issue 5, May 2021, fiab068: https://academic.oup.com/femsec/artic... - Speaker 2: Nathalie Amacker, Ecology and Biodiversity group, Institute of Environmental Biology, University of Utrecht (Netherlands). Author of: Protist feeding patterns and growth rate are related to their predatory impacts on soil bacterial communities, Amacker et al. FEMS Microbiology Ecology, Volume 98, Issue 6, June 2022, fiac057: https://academic.oup.com/femsec/artic... - Speaker 3: Erik S. Wright, Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Pittsburgh (USA). Author of: Multi-stable bacterial communities exhibit extreme sensitivity to initial conditions, Wright et al.
