This video is about avoiding and lessening the bulky seams, when you are patchworking, making 조각보 "jogakbo", with the 쌈솔 "ssamsol" or flat felled seaming method. I received a few comments about the bulky seams, and what to do - so I thought a lot about this, experimented, and these are some suggestions I came up with. For those of you who haven’t seen my earlier video about this patchworking and seaming and stitching method, you way want to watch that video first. • Korean Patchwork Jogakbo 조각보 Sewing Tu... I narrowed my suggestions down to 4 tips: 1. The first thing to do is use light weight fabrics. I show some suggestions of the best fabrics to use if you are wanting to create your own patchwork. 2. The second thing to lessen the bulky seams is offset the seams when you are joining the pieces together. Avoid aligning the seams on top of each other, when you are sewing the patched pieces together. 3. My third suggestion is to clip some of the fabric bulk at the seam ends. Watch the video to see how I did this. 4. Lastly, you don't need to use the 쌈솔 "ssamsol" seaming method to make jogakbo. You can just stitch a single row of whipstitch. This will eliminate bulk - however, if you will be left with raw edges on the back, and if you don't want them to show, will have to line the back. But this may be a good option if you are making something that you don't plan on washing.
