Gorey Community School - U.N. International Day of Peace 2013

Gorey Community School, the largest secondary school in the whole island of Ireland, hosted the opening of Ireland's Second World Peace Weekend Festival. Instruments of Peace, the promoters of the U.N. International Day of Peace in Ireland, are truly grateful to Ms. Grainne Mulcahy, the school's chaplain, who initiated the partnership with Instruments of Peace. With the full backing of the school principal, Mr. Michael Finn, the ceremony of holding "A Minute of Silence, A Moment of Peace" during the school hours, allowing their 1,555 students to get out of their classrooms and form three Celtic Spirals in the courtyard, was an unprecedented success! This is also for the school an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of humans holding hands for one minute of silence for peace. After the ceremony, a 10-meter banner, "MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH" was signed by the students and staff of the school. To complete the school's Peace Day celebration, the students entertained everyone with a home-made Peace Concert. This video contains snippets of that concert.
