Today we're talking all about Ellijay, specifically where things are located and what makes this town a great choice for full time living, part time living or investing in a short term rental. Ellijay is located about an hour and a half from Atlanta and is nestled in the heart of the North GA mountains. Ellijay is located in Gilmer County, and due to it's size and terrain, things can feel a little spread out. Depending on where you're at in the county could possibly mean a 20-30 minute drive to a grocery store or to the downtown area, but rest assured this is actual drive time, not due to traffic constraints. Ellijay proudly holds the title of Georgia’s Apple Capital, and every fall, the town celebrates with the famous Georgia Apple Festival. This is a two-weekend event that brings in visitors from all over to enjoy fresh apples, homemade cider, arts and crafts, and live entertainment. Several family-owned orchards, such as B.J. Reece Orchards and R & A Orchards, allow visitors to pick their own apples while enjoying the stunning mountain views. Several orchards are located on a strecth of Hwy 52, if you'd like to hit up several of them in one shot. Ellijay is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, making it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. With miles of hiking and biking trails directly in Ellijay and of course the surrounding areas, you'll be able to constantly explore the great outdoors. This is just a short list of what's available, but be sure to check out Benton MacKaye Trail, Cartecay River Loop, and Tumbling Waters Trail, as these come highly recommended. And if you're looking for some water fun, make sure to do some kayaking, fishing or tubing at Cartecay River or Carter's Lake. For the food and wine lovers, if you're looking for some great wines to try or good southern food to eat, Ellijay does not disappoint. The surrounding vineyards, such as Engelheim Vineyards and Roo Mountain Vineyards, produce a wide variety of wines in picturesque settings. There's plenty of wineries to choose from, many of which are participants of the Georgia Wine Highway, which offers a passport of different wineries with some free tastings and discounts. And if cider or craft beer is more your style, you can check out Reece’s Cider Co. Downtown Ellijay is rich with small town charm and strolling these quaint streets, you'll find local eateries, boutique shops and antique stores. Whether you're enjoying a coffee at Das Kaffee Haus or a cocktail or southern dish at The Roof, the downtown area has a good mix of things sure to please everyone.
