Charles S. Cobbs, MD - Neurosurgeon and Director of the the Swedish Neuroscience Institute's Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment - shares what makes the Seattle, WA brain cancer treatment center stand out from other brain tumor treatment centers in the Western Washington State region. "The Ivy Center is just about brain cancer," he explains. "Once we get to know our patient as an individual person, he or she will get a thorough evaluation and a focused approach - just for brain tumors." Dr. Cobbs also explains why having large patient volumes and access to clinical trials mean better outcomes for patients who are treated at Swedish Neuroscience Institute. According to Dr. Cobbs, most clincs don't address the high anxiety, and sometimes depression, that may accompany a diagnosis of a brain tumor. "It's well known that one of the biggest missing peices of the puzzle of brain tumor treatment is the psychological impact of the disease," Dr. Cobbs explains. "We've very fortunate to have Robin here as a social worker and therapist, to address these issues with all of our patients. It really helps them get through these tough times." "My primary job is to make sure that patients and families are not alone," says Robin Callahan, MSW LICSW. "I am able to bring my training in Western Psychotherapy, Chinese Medicine, Mindfulness and Animal Assistive Therapy and provide individual patient-centered care." Meet Dr. Cobbs and Robyn in this short video.
