I'm still happily on vacation but that will not stop my summer of HAMAUZU!!!!!! 😍😍😍 I got like, SUPER into his stuff, like more than usual, around March or April and started in on this arranging frenzy while the Tactics stuff was indefinitely stalled, plus having recently completed my replay of the XIII trilogy and absolutely LOVING it 1000000x more than I did the first time around I was really just jonesing for those tasty extended chords he's so well known for. I will never understand why this particular track never got a proper arrangement in the piano collections but honestly it would be so hard to narrow down all the achingly gorgeous and hard hitting bangers in the XIII OST that something's gotta give lol. Which is ok because I LOVE this track and I loved arranging and playing it so much, I had sorta done a halfassed version many years ago but have always wanted to revisit it! Promised Eternity plays during one of my favorite FF cutscenes in the entire series, Snow's proposal to Serah in Bodhum. It's such a WONDERFUL, romantic, poignant scene omg, like right up there with Yuna's sending at Kilika in FFX and the Squall's newfound waltz skills in FF8--it resonates so powerfully and makes us love that dumbass himbo Snow so much more seeing him pledge undying love to Serah regardless of her doomed fate, and this track just accompanies that scene SO WELL OMG. All of the longing and the uncertainty and happiness tinged with sorrow, Hamauzu's ability to powerfully and deeply convey raw emotion in a sophisticated package is on full display here, really one of his finest tracks on the OST! One of the toughest challenges in arranging this type of Hamauzu track is of course, his penchant for VERRRRRRY WIDE OPEN voicings and usage of extreme lows and extreme highs to create a vast sense of spaciousness and expressive weight, which is what makes the track sound so powerful, but on one keyboard with two hands it means tons of consecutive of rolled chords consisting of 1293847 notes lmao and you just gotta pace yourself wisely. I hope you all enjoy this updated version! I'll have some more updates when i get back home next week! Hope you're all having a great summer!
