Racial tensions high in Cincinnati as 7th brawl suspect arrested

The Cincinnati police union has indicated that arrests of the Caucasian individuals involved in a downtown brawl in July may not occur, as police and prosecutors have deemed it "extremely difficult to establish probable cause against a victim." The Fraternal Order of Police president released a statement noting that the white individuals involved have been identified as "victims." This development comes as a seventh person, 32-year-old Gregory Wright, was arraigned on Tuesday and is now in jail on charges of aggravated riot and aggravated robbery. The incident has heightened racial tensions in a city already under pressure, as all seven arrested individuals are African-American, while none of the six Caucasian individuals, labeled as victims by police, have been charged. "It's a powder keg. It's a powder keg," said Carl Lewis, the attorney for Wright. He was referring to the potentially explosive situation in Cincinnati. During Wright's arraignment, Det. Barney Blank of the Cincinnati Police Department testified against Wright. "While a gentleman is getting pummeled on the ground, literally beaten in the face, we have video of Mr. Wright reaching up, grabbing hold of the neck of the victim, and jerking a chain off of his neck," said Blank. Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Tyrone Yates, during the arraignment, requested additional security.
