Going to the race track in any car for the first time is always a fun experience. I remember how I thought the Accord was pretty dialled in and was quite track ready as it did quite well on the streets, but WOW was I wrong. I found out how fast the brakes faded, how the suspension would bottom out and how the car definitely wasn’t track ready, not only that, but it was also quite slow. Well I will be doing the same thing all over again, but instead of it being in a FWD economy car, it will be in a RWD sports car. The preparation for the track is going to be quite similar for each of those cars… any car for that matter. Getting a car ready for the track isn’t to make it car as fast as possible, but as capable as possible. If there are any leaks, you would want to address them before hand. If there are any worn out parts, you would want to replace them. If there is any wear item that is measurable (brake pad material, tire tread depth, etc), you will want to take note of it before so you can see how aggressive track driving is on your vehicle. Taking care of your car’s fluids is one of the most important things you can do before beating the hell out of your car. Your engine oil is going to be the most important part of it as it is the lubrication for your engine. You wouldn’t want to starve the engine of oil, or feed it dirty oil when you’re pushing your car to its limits. The engine oil, the brake fluid, the transmission oil, differential oil, and power steering fluid should all be looked at and changed if needed (in that order). It will be at the track where you will be able to find out the weak points of your car, and you can improve on those areas later. That is how you can make a reliable car… I will be heading to #TMP #TorontoMotorsportPark in #Cayuga for their open lapping day. They have both a circuit and drag strip that you can bring your car to and see how capable your car is.
