It is possible that a person who gets a hit to the eye can develop a glaucoma especially if it is a ball injury and if the ball is smaller, smaller than the size of the orbit of our eyes. If it is a huge ball like the football, then the impact is taken by the bone surrounding the eye so that the eye doesn’t get injured.in smaller balls, then it causes damage to the internal structure to the eye especially the trabecular meshwork of the eye. Trabecular meshwork is the area of the eye where the fluid inside the eye keeps getting drained out. When it gets a hit with a ball, then the outflow of the fluids gets restricted and then it causes a rise in the blood pressure and that is called as glaucoma. Glaucoma can definitely cause damage to the main nerve of the eye and it is called as optic nerve, which is called as angle recession glaucoma. There is a condition called as inflammatory glaucoma. Because of the hit, there can be inflammation of the eye, which can lead to glaucoma. So any trauma can lead to glaucoma and there are multiple mechanisms for glaucoma.
