Taking advantage of the weakness and busyness of elderly or lone shopkeepers, they managed to steal nearly ₹50,000 this morning around 6 a.m. with remarkable ease. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, in which two cunning thieves can be clearly seen, although one of them was wearing a helmet. This shocking incident took place this morning in Jain Nagar, which falls under Rohini’s Begampur police station area. At Archana Dairy, located on Jain Nagar’s 40 Feet Road, a man arrived on a white scooter, followed closely by his accomplice on foot. The scooter rider, who had a helmet on, was seen signaling and explaining the plan to his partner. The scooter rider first asked for cigarettes and handed over a ₹500 note. At that moment, he told his accomplice to deliberately drop a box of toffees. Meanwhile, the scooter rider took the balance of ₹500, rode a little distance away, and immediately returned, telling the elderly woman sitting at the shop that someone was running away with her belongings. As soon as the elderly woman stepped outside the shop, the second man—acting on the scooter rider’s signal—entered the shop, grabbed around ₹40,000–₹50,000 from the cash drawer, stuffed it into a bag, and fled. This incident has exposed a new kind of gang and theft method in Delhi’s Jain Nagar, where in broad daylight, the attention of an elderly woman was deliberately diverted, and within minutes, the thieves escaped easily with a hefty sum of money. Police have said that a case has been registered, but since ministers’ programs were underway in the Rohini area today, the entire police force was occupied there. It is expected that both these thieves will be arrested soon.
