"If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart Absent thee from felicity a while, And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain To tell my story." - V.ii Shakespeare under quarantine returns with our THIRTEENTH full uncut Shakespeare play! Including this production, our total participants number over 1500 individuals from 26 countries and 5 continents! We also have 3 new languages to boast: Welsh, Indonesian, and KLINGON!!! Sofa Shakespeare: Hamlet includes 226 individual submissions edited together to create Shakespeare's longest and most famous work. It's got everything: ghosts, gruesome murders, swordfights, pirates, romance, humor, and words...words...words. Performers include veteran Shakespearean actors, children, LEGOs, chickens, horses, puppets, actual swordfights (thanks stage combat friends!), original animation sequences, aerialists, and enough skulls to make me concerned. While this idea is admittedly very silly, I created this for anyone feeling isolated during these very isolating times. Shakespeare knows no boundaries - his stories are accessible to all, and are even more relevant today than they were a few weeks ago. In Shakespeare's time, rampant infectious disease was a fact of life and he was never certain if his plays would go up or if the theatres would be shuttered. During those times when the theatres were closed, he would keep writing. Keep creating. Even though this project is now on pause while I am busy with a newborn baby, my hope is that this work inspires others to make their own Sofa Shakespeares - whether anyone is watching or not, Shakespeare is for EVERYONE to enjoy, interpret, and experience. Thank you so much to all who have watched, contributed, and shared this content - you have made me feel more connected and less isolated during this garbage fire of a pandemic, and I hope it did the same for all of you, too. This is our thirteenth (and possibly final) production. Visit www.SofaShakespeare.com for everything you need to know.
