Queenstown New Zealand. Amazing highlights from our first day here Dec 2024

Busy day! Day 25 of the Grand Tour of New Zealand, first day in Queenstown with many amazing highlights, Dec 2024, going from Wanaka to Queenstown via Arrowtown and Kawarau Gorge to see the home of Bungy Jumping. Next it was the Queenstown Skyline Gondola and three Luge rides before finally making the journey along the shore of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy. A great day of activity. Leaving Wanaka, we drove through the Cardrona Pass stopping firstly at the village and then at the top of the pass, the Crown Range summit, at 1076 metres, the highest sealed road in New Zealand. Next, in was into the quaint old town of Arrowtown, which was full of character, shopping, food, and things to see and do. After this we took a small detour to the Kawarau Gorge to see Bungy Jumping at the A.J. Hackett Bungy Centre - was definitely tempted to do this!! Watched 2-3 people do it and we walked across the suspension bridge to see the gorge. Next, it was on to Queenstown, where our first stop was the Skyline Gondola. 700 metres high, very steep, but giving outstanding views of Lake Wakatipu. We also bought tickets for 3 Luge Rides and really enjoyed this youthful activity!! Finally, we drove along the shore of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy and stopped at Seven Mile Point for amazing views. This was a very scenic drive in both directions though when we arrived in Glenorchy, the rain started to fall. Dinner was eaten here and then it was back to Queenstown to check in to our hotel for the next 3 nights, The Copthorne Hotel. Next day is our excursion to Milford Sound!!
