PRINTS of SOUND OF PLANETS, STARS AND SPACE available at: https://society6.com/davidmrugala/col... ========================================= The Van Allen Belt is the space around the Earth enriched with electrons, protons, and energy created by interactions between Earth's magnetic field (or magnetosphere), the solar wind, and (occasionally) cosmic rays arriving from beyond the solar system. The signals in this audiovisual are called whistlers, created by lightning discharges in Earth's atmosphere which then propagate back and forth along magnetic field lines. The resulting spread in frequency produces a whistling tone with the dispersion related to the quantity of plasma the signal has traversed. (According to the University of Iowa.) This audiovisual is based on very recent recordings of Electric and Magnetic Field Instrument Suite and Integrated Science (EMFISIS) waves by the Van Allen Probes. The probes are two robotic spacecraft with the goal to understand the sun's influence on the Earth and near-Earth space by studying the planet's radiation belts on various scales of space and time. The inner belt extends from about 1000 to 8000 miles above Earth's equator. The outer belt extends from about 12,000 to 25,000 miles. For more information, please follow the links of the audio files.
