(12 Jun 2019) Austria's new interim Chancellor delivered her first government declaration on Wednesday. During her speech in parliament, former judge Brigitte Bierlein stressed the need to work together across differences like ethnicity, religion and political beliefs calling cooperation "a good Austrian tradition." Bierlein said because the current government wasn't elected by the people it would seek to stay out of daily politics and instead would try to "guarantee stability and security for the people in this country." The current interim government consists mainly of civil servants and experts with little or no party affiliations and will stay in power until snap elections later this year. A possible election date is September 29 which parliament is expected to agree and vote on later on Wednesday. Bierlein took over from former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz who was ousted by parliament in a no-confidence vote at the end of May, the first vote of its kind to have succeeded in its modern history. It made Kurz the shortest-serving chancellor since 1945 with 525 days in office, according to the Austria Press Agency.
