Style: Swing, usually played at up tempos. Form: A-B1-A-B2 (32 Bars) [8-8-8-8] It is common to begin the performance with an intro vamp revolving around V7sus. Key: Bb Major Harmony/Overview: The harmony of this composition is very functional. The main theme revolves around a V7sus vamp which adds a modal touch the the otherwise bop oriented changes. It is common for the accompaniment to begin on IMaj7 and move diatonically through the key while the bass remains on the V pedal during the A's. Both B sections begin on IVMaj7 and continue with a series of II - V's, although both sections have slightly different endings. Recordings: This song has been recorded over 50 times to date and is one of Hank Mobley's most well-known compositions. It was first introduced on Mobley's album Soul Station in 1960 and it remains a favorite among instrumentalists, continuing to be performed frequently to this day.
