Maybe we’ve been called something for so long we don’t know how to be any other way… Internal or external voice… Many times, we become labeled with something and after a while it becomes a self-fulfilled prophecy… Whenever we come to Christ - whatever our old identity was, it’s done away with and we’re made new… 2 Corinthians 5:13-21 V14-15 First notice the motive… V16-17 A New creation… not altered but new… those labels the enemy tried to place on us before no longer apply… you no longer have to sin… V18-20 Reconciliation, we were once at odds with God, now we can know Him… Not only are we reconciled with God, we have the privilege to be used to help others know Christ… V21 In Christ we “become the righteousness of God…” God gives us a new label, a new identity… to what - to “become the righteousness of God“ When come to Jesus, when we are baptized, we take on that new identity… We go from every vial identity that Satan would give us, to every true identity that God would speak over us… So what is Identity? And how does it give us spiritual victory? Identity (labeling oneself) Satan would have you identify yourself by your sin, and fleshly desires… Christ would have you identify yourself by His work in you and how He perceives you… Christ knows your true identity – it’s not what the flesh and Satan says… Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not everyone’s opinion carries the same weight… So often we take the opinion of the enemy as though it’s equal with God’s… You must know that the blood of Christ has afforded you to have lasting victory… You may still say, ‘Well that’s what God says, but it doesn’t change the fact that I’m a mess…” Paul understood what it was to be a mess… 1 Timothy 1:15 Romans 11:29 Paul was the chief of sinners but was still completely qualified for everything that God had called him to do based on God’s work, and calling, and grace… Don’t allow the fact that you struggle to be your excuse to drop out… or find your identity in you sinful desires… I don’t care what the enemy says… I don’t care what the last 24 hours looked like for you… failures… you can have victory… finding you identity in Christ is a powerful tool to get you there… Your salvation is founded strictly on the grace of God, not on being “good” enough… And in that grace is freedom… grace isn’t a license to sin, rather our understanding of the love, and work, of Jesus that serves to drive us into purity… and our new identity in Jesus… The clean hand in cooking… Proverbs 23:7 Romans 5:16 Romans 8:1 And as we get the truth and work of Christ in us and it’s what consumes our thoughts… and lives… and identities…we’re not sinners saved by grace, but saints that were once sinners… we need to let go of old identities… 2 Timothy 2:13 God doesn’t act faithful, He is faithful… God doesn’t simply love, He is Love… As we abide in Christ, His characteristics become our own, His virtues become our own… So the question is who we are in Christ: 1 Corinthians 3:16 – temple of God Galatians 3:26 – son of God Galatians 4:7 – not a slave Ephesians 5:8 – light in the world Colossians 2:10 – Complete 1 John 2:14 – strong, overcomer Acts 15:9 – Pure Hearts None of this is because we’re so good in and of ourselves, but it’s all because of the humbling mercy, grace and love of God… this is not a point of pride, but a point of humility and of thankfulness for the work of God… This teaching isn’t about the power of positive thinking, and willing ourselves to victory… that’s not the point… this word is about living a life that say’s whatever Your Word – whatever God’s Word says is true, and I’m going to have faith in Him and not what Satan and this world and even what we would say about ourselves… My faith is in God’s truth and no other subjective thing… Don’t be like Chapa… God’s called you to be free, live free in Christ… live in your new identity… Salvation – A simple prayer like this: • Jesus I've gone my own way and sinned against you... • Have mercy on me and forgive me for my sins… • I believe you are the Son of God who died in my place and rose from the dead, with the power and authority to give me new life… • Thank you for making me a child of God, now I surrender my life and my all to your purposes... • Give me, through the Holy Spirit, the courage and boldness to live a Christian life, and stand for you…
