After about four months of on and off work (plus a cross country move in between) the engine swap in UglyTruck is finally 100% complete. I've been putting some miles on it, and couldn't be happier with how it performs. But the question is, what does it cost to do a conversion like this? And would that money be better spent modifying a 5.3? Thats the million dollar question we discuss today. UglyTruck is a 2000 Silverado 1500 extended cab short box 2wd which has a 8.6 10-bolt rear end with a 4L80e trans swapped in the middle. Its now powered by a 2002 8.1 496 Big Block Vortec 8100. Stock these engines are rated at 340hp and 455lb.ft. of torque, and at the wheels it put down 306hp and 429lb. ft. Its a fun truck, and the 4.30 gears and truetrac make a blast to drive sideways.
