Tech 101: Interoperability

Far too often, components and systems across the services, manufacturers, and alliances lack basic compatibility, resulting in persistent obstacles throughout their service life. As the global technological landscape becomes increasingly complex, we have to consider the best ways to get our most critical defense technologies to work together. When interoperability is successfully implemented, we can achieve widespread integration of diverse platforms, enhancing situational awareness, response agility, and the overall success of missions. This not only strengthens national security but also promotes international cooperation, bolstering the collective defense capabilities of nations in an interconnected world. This presentation will cover the basics of interoperability, including examples from everyday life, illustrate the importance of interoperability to the defense sector, and provide an overview of ongoing DoD and government activities to enhance the interoperability of US forces.
