#homedesign #HomeIdeas #housedesign #desainomahku The story revolves around the replacement of a 1970s house designed by architect John Winter, situated near Highgate Cemetery in London, with a new house designed by Eldridge London. The decision to replace the original structure was made due to its deteriorating condition and the desire to maximize the potential of the unique site. The new house, set over four floors, features a modern design with contrasting facades. Facing the street is a sleek facade of black granite, translucent glass, and black steel panels, reminiscent of the cemetery wall nearby. This creates an aura of mystery and complements the monumental masonry of the cemetery. In contrast, the sides facing the cemetery are largely glazed, allowing natural light to flood the interior and providing stunning views of the cemetery. The design incorporates sustainable elements, such as a concrete frame with high-quality exposed finishes internally, which helps reduce energy usage. The concrete structure also allows for passive solar gain during the winter months and thermal regulation throughout the year. Additionally, stone cladding and a green sedum roof system help control temperature fluctuations. Internally, the house features a low-temperature hot water underfloor heating system, maximizing comfort while minimizing energy usage. Large areas of clear glass floor panels connect the interior spaces vertically, while bespoke joinery and furniture add to the overall design. John Winter, the original architect, expressed satisfaction with the new house, stating that it was better than the original and "as near to a faultless building as I have seen for a long time." This reflects the successful collaboration between Eldridge London and the owner in creating a new, innovative home that respects the site's history while embracing modern design and sustainability principles.
